WebWork 2.2 Is Out

Ths is good news! WebWork 2.2 is out. The big thing that I like about it is that there's now native support for Spring rolled into the core distribution. I've been using the Spring/WebWork integration since it first appeared and it's pretty slick --- try it, you might like it. Obviously, there's a bunch of other Good Stuff in there too.

This is also the last release of WebWork under the aegis of the OpenSymphony group. After this, we'll see a migration to the Struts Action Framework. As a long time WebWork user, I find this new direction interesting. On theone hand, it makes it far easier to introduce a kitten-friendly webapp framework into clients who insist that Struts is the only answer (for whatever reason) On the other hand, WebWork will now acquire an inertia which will make it harder to address some of the underlying issues with WebWork. In addition, it'll be interesting to see if the "best practices" of the WebWork community infect the Struts community or the other way round. We'll see.
